We’re proud to announce our partnership with SailGP as the Official Foil Tip Manufacturer of SailGP for the 2025 season of the global racing championship. SailGP can be likened to the Formula 1 of the sailing world, with their F50 class hydrofoil catamarans reaching speeds of 100kph and pulling G’s on the racecourse. Alongside the America’s Cup, SailGP is the tip of the spear in the performance hydrofoil sailing world.
After a lengthy development period, the F50’s are transitioning from L-style foils to the highly anticipated new T-foils. The new design will make its first appearance this weekend at the New Zealand Sail Grand Prix in Auckland. These machined titanium foils feature carbon fibre foil tips that we’ve specially manufactured for SailGP in the same facility where we build our own foils.
“It’s incredibly exciting to see Armstrong Foils partnering with SailGP. I’ve been foiling with Armie Armstrong since before wingfoiling even really became a sport and I can say that Armstrong is all about precision engineering and top-level manufacturing. Really looking forward to racing these new foils in the 2025 season!” – Peter Burling, Black Foils Driver and Co-CEO
The racing organization approached Armstrong to build the carbon foil tips due to our proven composites manufacturing expertise with building our own hydrofoils. Armie – a lifelong sailor himself – said of the project that it’s been “amazing working with the SailGP development team, especially those on the technical design and boat building side. They’re at the top of the game globally so it’s been great to gain insights from them along the way as well.”
Alongside our involvement in manufacturing the T-foil foil tips, Armstrong is the Official Wing Foiling Equipment Supplier for SailGP’s Inspiring the Next Generation program. Wing foiling continues to grow in popularity and is the foremost foil sport that’s accessible and high performance. This evolution will bring on and off-water entertainment to audiences throughout the 2025 season, aligned to SailGP’s vision to open up the sport to new audiences and attract the next generation. “The whole team here at Armstrong is so passionate about foiling and bringing the sport to new audiences every day. Our partnership with SailGP is a fantastic way for us to fulfill that mission with a partner that’s equally dedicated to the future of foiling.” – Nathan Tuke
