A+ System
The A+ System is our proprietary foil assembly system that joins the carbon mast, fuselage, front foil, and stabilizer together for a smooth and stiff feel on the water. At the A+ System’s core lies an innovative titanium and carbon tubular fuselage with a narrow cross section to dramatically reduce drag. The hexagonal front half of the fuselage passes through a tapered fairing at the base of the mast and provides an exceptionally strong front foil mount. At the rear of the fuselage sits a cutaway onto which the stabilizer integrates to efficiently complete the fuselage shape. Premium 316L stainless and titanium hardware minimizes corrosion. Polycarbonate Pro Shims allow for half degree incremental changes to stabilizer pitch for incredibly easy tuning of the foil’s flying characteristics. The A+ System is fully modular; the front foil, fuselage, mast, and stabilizer are each interchangeable to tune the entire setup as desired. The design is also futureproofed to ensure that upgrading to newer components is a breeze.
Alloy System
The Alloy System is our aluminum mast and fuselage setup that, like the carbon fiber A+ System, is futureproofed and fully modular to adapt to all our front foils and stabilizers. Building on the knowledge and technology used to develop our industry-leading Performance carbon mast, the Alloy mast section and structure are optimized from top to bottom for an excellent balance of strength, efficiency, and weight. A specially machined mast top and a bottom bracket design inspired by components on Sail-GP racing foil boats exemplify the attention detail put into this system that maximizes performance and minimizes compromise. The mast and fuselage are crafted from 6061 and 7075 alloy for excellent strength and weight properties where needed most.
Cross Panel Sail Design
The innovative Cross Panel Sail (XPS) design provides an outstanding connected feel to the wing when riding. By arranging the canopy panels at diagonal angles, this futuristic panel layout greatly reduces sail distortion and improved load distribution and frame rigidity. This gives all A-Wing sizes a very direct and controlled feel for easy and comfortable flying. Removable carbon fiber battens minimize trailing edge flutter and provide easy canopy tuning for varying wind strengths.
Forward Geometry
Emphasizing modularity within board design, Armstrong introduced a major innovation to wing boards in 2021 with the Forward Geometry concept. Designed to work with any brand of foil, the FG design increases responsiveness by placing the foil more centrally and reducing swing weight in turns. This strategic placement well forward maximum maneuverability and a hyper connected feel on foil, delivering high performance to riders on all board sizes.
Dual Carbon Stringer System
The Dual Carbon Stringer System is a proven board construction layup with maximum rigidity that enables a direct, connected feel to the foil. The ultra stiff double skin carbon PVC sandwich combined with Armstrong’s reputed i-beam top to bottom dual stringers is structurally highly rigid and durable over time. Proprietary carbon fiber foil tracks are keyed directly into the stringer fibers for a fully integrated construction.
The Power Batten
A primary design challenge with wings – large wings in particular – is making sure everything stays the right shape when riding. Located at the rear of the canopy perpendicular to the strut, our proprietary, patent-pending carbon fiber Power Batten maintains a precise airfoil profile along the full length of the wing from leading to trailing edge. This dramatically improves power generation through the center of the wing with hyper-efficient airflow and enables the A-Wing XPS Lightwind wing’s signature bat tail outline. A narrower wingspan with less outboard weight is more balanced, much easier to pump up onto foil, and overall feels smaller than other wings of equivalent area – all huge wins out on the water.
Premium Hardware
All Armstrong hardware is either 316L stainless steel or titanium. These premium materials are light, strong, and is highly corrosion resistant on foil components. We utilize torx type hardware across the board, the same type typically found in high performance motorsports and aviation applications due to the minimized risk of stripping.
Polycarbonate Pro Shims
These easily installed stabilizer trimming shims come in 0.5 and 1-degree thicknesses. Using these shims, riders can set 0 to 2 degrees of stabilizer trim angle to fully tune the speed range, pitch stability, and efficiency of their foil setup. Blue and red coloring make for easy identification.
